Protecting and serving children and families is a longstanding commitment of Katie’s. She strongly advocates for clients when they are going through one of the most difficult times of life, and ensures that her clients goals are prioritized. Katie has a special interest in helping families with challenges that include complex property division, mental health issues (including personality disorders), and substance abuse issues. Katie serves a wide range of clients from professionals to stay at home parents. Katie has unique experience involving cases where one or both spouses have a personality disorder. A patient listener and creative problem solver, she utilizes a goal-based, strategic approach with clients. Katie understands how emotionally charged divorce can be, and helps her clients stay grounded in making decisions that achieve their long-term interests. Whenever possible, Katie collaborates with clients and opposing parties to reach resolution without unnecessary litigation, and keep matters from escalating and adding cost and difficulty. Children’s causes have been a passion of Katie’s since college, when she was a substitute teacher and mentored a child who was in foster care. While in law school she clerked for the Honorable Martha Tanner, 166th Judicial District Court, Bexar County. In addition to her law practice, Katie is a board member of Legacy Family Court Foundation which assists families that have had children removed because of addiction issues, promoting long-term sobriety and family reunification.
