Biography

Norjmoo Battulga is energized and inspired by the law as a creative learning exercise each and every day that she practices.

Norjmoo arrived in the United States at the age of five and was raised in Denver, Colorado with her sister. Serving as interpreters for their parents, the sisters realized that despite their proficiency in the new language, there was still a lot to learn about the systems, regulations and rules that “we didn’t have the privilege of knowing about.” For Norjmoo, this led to her interest in a profession that would help her grasp the nuances of government, business, and the legal system. She decided early on that the law was one of the few fields where continuous learning and novelty is one of its distinguishing features.

She earned a B.A. in Journalism at Metropolitan State University of Denver, and earned her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law, magna cum laude in 2020. While in law school, she served as an intern for the ACLU’s Immigrant’s Rights Project, as a judicial extern for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Office of the Staff Attorneys, and as a judicial extern for the Honorable Brad Seligman of the Alameda County Superior Court.

Following law school, Norjmoo spent a year working for the LGBT Asylum Project, as part of the inaugural cohort of Legal Services Funders Network’s fellows in the San Francisco Bay Area. In that role, she assisted clients applying for asylum and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. She moved on from that post to clerk for a pair of judges in the Oregon Court of Appeals, the Hon. James C. Egan and the Hon. Roger J. DeHoog. The appellate experience she acquired in those chambers aligned with her fundamental attraction to research and writing.

Away from work, Norjmoo takes full advantage of all the Pacific Northwest has to offer, whether camping, hiking, paddle-boarding, climbing, or romping with her two dogs.
