Biography

I have been called a "true believer" repeatedly in the twenty-plus years I have fought employers (the largest employers are usually my fav cases). The "true believer" description comes from how clear it is that I believe in my clients' cases and that I believe employers must be held accountable. It is unusual to have spent so many years focused exclusively on unlawful firings (instead of all employee cases). But I knew it was what I would do from the start. And my knowledge, experience, and true belief is your gain :) At times, Perry has had to litigate cases beyond the trial court. Perry has prevailed many times at the Court of Appeal. Perry may be the only lawyer in California to have reversed the same judge three different times in a single case when an abuse of discretion standard of review was applied (that means the judge had significant discretion but still managed to commit error that required an appeal to remedy).Law School # 20 in Nation -- First years of work at employment defense firm representing huge employers, which has assisted in employee representation for the last two decades-plus. More... “I thought that this was excellent litigating by everybody, particularly most of these papers prepared by [Perry Smith], on plaintiffs’ behalf. I admired your skill, your writing. It was a pleasure to read what you write.”– Judge Ronald L. Bauer, Orange County Superior Court “Indeed, the motion for class certification [written by Perry Smith] itself demonstrated [Perry Smith’s] understanding of both the substantive and procedural issues presented by this case, [his] diligence in prosecuting it, and [his] willingness and ability to devote the resources necessary to prosecute it.”– California Court of Appeal “I have a friend who needs [an employment lawyer]. Since you kicked my ass in an employment case I thought of you.”– Defense Lawyer in Los Angeles County.
