Biography

Peter A. Stroili focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, including arbitrating and litigating insurance coverage matters geared to specific transactions, professional liability defense, reinsurance, securities litigation and ERISA defense. Mr. Stroili’s commercial litigation experience includes extensive experience in Directors and Officers (“D & O”) insurance coverage actions, as well as representing some of the most prominent law firms in New York in legal malpractice actions, and corporate officers and directors in securities class-actions and other fiduciary duty litigation. He has handled many high-profile matters dealing with a wide-range of subjects, including simultaneous arbitration and civil litigation relating to the underwriting and financing of a patent enforcement program, internet liability insurance coverage and reinsurance.

He has successfully litigated numerous actions in state and federal courts, including recently overturning a $2.3 million jury verdict based on judicial estoppel. Mr. Stroili has also prevailed in high-stakes arbitrations, including the successful assertion of no coverage for $97 million in tax liabilities under a tax avoidance plan. He has written and spoken on “Best Practices in Arbitration” before the New York State Bar Association.

Mr. Stroili has also engaged in extensive appellate practice, including arguing appeals, often on novel issues of law, before the New York Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Ninth Circuit Courts. His cases have often been featured in Law 360 or the New York Law Journal.

Mr. Stroili is also an active participant in non-profit organizations serving his local community in Stamford, Connecticut.
