Biography

Phillip “Reed” Martens is a trial attorney with Monsees & Mayer, P.C., representing clients throughout Missouri and Kansas in complex personal injury and sexual abuse litigation. Based in Kansas City, Reed focuses his practice on helping survivors of sexual abuse and victims of catastrophic injury pursue justice against negligent individuals, corporations, and institutions.

Reed earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Missouri before obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law. During law school, he clerked with Monsees & Mayer before joining the firm as an attorney in 2016. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, Kansas, and multiple federal courts.

His practice includes representing survivors of child sexual abuse, boarding school abuse, clergy abuse, and institutional abuse, as well as clients injured in trucking accidents, automobile collisions, product liability claims, hunting accidents, and wrongful death matters. Reed has successfully served as both lead and co-counsel in jury trials and has helped clients secure significant verdicts and settlements through strategic litigation and relentless advocacy.

In addition to his litigation work, Reed is active in advocacy efforts surrounding survivors’ rights and civil sexual abuse legislation. He has presented on sexual abuse litigation and insurance issues at numerous legal education seminars and testified before the Missouri House Judiciary Committee in support of legislation expanding the time limits for child sexual abuse survivors to pursue civil claims.

Known for his compassionate, client-focused approach, Reed is committed to helping injury victims and survivors navigate difficult circumstances while aggressively pursuing accountability and meaningful recovery.
