Attorney Rafael A. González earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law and his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. He also holds a degree in Business Administration and Computer Science.
While completing his undergraduate studies, he interned at the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office as a lead investigator. During his time at the University of Miami, Mr. González obtained a position as a judicial clerk under the Honorable Judge Shelley Kravitz in the Miami-Dade County Court in Florida. While working with Judge Kravitz, Mr. González participated in one of the largest product liability litigations in the United States against tobacco companies, which resulted in a $145 billion verdict for the plaintiffs in Engle v. Liggett. Mr. González gained significant experience working as a civil attorney at law firms in Downtown Miami and Hialeah, Florida. In 2010, he joined other civil litigators as a partner at the law firm Freeman, Mallard, Sharp & González, focusing on motor vehicle accident cases. As a member of The Florida Bar Association and the Federal Bar, he is authorized to practice in all Florida state courts and in the federal courts of the Southern District of Florida. He has also served as vice counsel pro hac vice in the United States Federal Court in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Mr. González is very active in the South Florida community, having volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and in various youth sports programs—including baseball, soccer, and football—where he has served as a volunteer coach.
