Raj Bhogal

Raj is a fierce advocate who helps injured victims and their families understand and navigate the litigation process. He believes in taking the stress associated with litigation away from his clients so they can focus on their health and recovery.

Raj has worked in the insurance industry his entire adult life. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he worked as a private investigator for several of North America’s largest insurance companies, investigating injury and disability claims. This experience brings a unique insight into his plaintiff injury practice.

Raj handles all types of personal injury claims, including complex files involving wrongful death, brain injury, and spinal cord injury. He regularly wins cases involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, product liability, sexual assault, and long-term disability denials. Raj also has a special interest in representing victims and their families following serious domestic and international aviation accidents.

No two cases are the same. Raj believes in taking a unique and tailored approach to each file. While most cases can be won expeditiously through informal dispute resolution, others require a more aggressive approach. Raj has conducted and won many trials. For example, in Ponych v. Klose, 2023 BCSC 1504, Raj’s client was awarded nearly $2 million in damages after a month-long trial.* The defence in the case argued Raj’s client did not sustain a brain injury and the impact on his life was relatively minor. Raj’s arguments were accepted by the Court over those made by the defence.

Raj has also conducted appeal work at the Divisional Court of Ontario and regularly appears before the Superior Court of Ontario, the License Appeal Tribunal, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Supreme Court of British Columbia.

In his little spare time, Raj enjoys downhill skiing, trying new restaurants, and travelling with his wife.
