Biography

Mr. Watkins is an experienced trial attorney who works with clients on a range of construction, business litigation, biotechnology, and agribusiness matters. He has tried dozens of cases to verdict in federal, state, and administrative courts across the country, including a number of multi-week jury trials. Mr. Watkins works with his clients at every phase of disputes, from litigation avoidance through appeal. He also dedicates substantial time to serving the Denver community with his pro bono work. Prior to joining Martin Hild, P.A., Mr. Watkins was a partner at an AmLaw 100 firm in Denver where he focused on complex litigation and class actions.

Hobbies & interests:

• Rhyddid dedicates time to pro bono cases involving education equality, civil rights issues, criminal

defense and appeals, and safety for victims of domestic abuse and sex trafficking.

• Education Equity: Represented over 50 teachers who successfully challenged the Minnesota Board of

Teaching’s initial denial of their teacher license; successfully sued the Board for illegal and

discriminatory practices in issuing teacher licenses; testified before the Minnesota Legislature in favor

of a new law passed in 2016 to eliminate the Board of Teaching and rewrite teacher licensing laws.

• Food Program: Successfully appealed the Minnesota Department of Education’s decision to deny a

nonprofit the right to participate in the Child and Adult Care Food Program as a sponsor; successfully

sued the Minnesota Department of Education for wrongfully denying the application; and obtained a

substantial settlement.

• Criminal Appeals: Obtained unanimous appellate decision reversing a conviction and freeing a

wrongfully imprisoned individual.

• Sex Trafficking Defense: Represented victims of sex trafficking.

• Orders for Protection: Obtained over 25 orders for protection for victims of domestic abuse.
