Biography

Richard Carnell Baker, the managing partner of Baker Simmons, Attorneys and Counsellors at Law, is a Washington, D.C. lawyer with over twenty-eight (28) years of litigation and transactional experience. He spent his formative years as a corporate and commercial litigator with McGuireWoods, LLC, in its Washington, D.C. and Tysons Corner offices. He serves as lead trial counsel for employers, employees and other entities involved in discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, wrongful discharge, Civil Rights, Title VII, intellectual property, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, defamation, breach of contract, personal injury, real estate, and unfair competition cases before the District of Columbia Superior and Court of Appeals, U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals in the District of Columbia and Virginia, the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission. He represents licensed professionals in administrative and related matters. He served as a Commissioner in Chancery of the Fairfax Circuit Court for over ten (10) years, and CEO/Chairman of the Board of a Federal Credit Union for over seven (7) years. He is a permanent member of the prestigious Judicial Conference of the Fourth Circuit. He has received awards from the Virginia State Bar, American College of Trial Lawyers, U.S. Small Business Administration, Fairfax County 4-H, and the Dean of the American University, Washington College of Law.
