Biography

Richard Arroyo is a California criminal defense attorney dedicated to protecting the rights of both

adults and juveniles. If a person is under the age of 18 when accused of committing a crime the case

will be heard in juvenile court.

Although both adults and juveniles share many of the same constitutional rights, there are many

important differences. For instance, juveniles have no right to a jury trial and cannot be bailed out of

custody.

Mr. Arroyo has over 30 years of experience representing clients throughout San Diego County

particularly youth and their families during one of the most stressful times in their lives.

His practice areas include all felonies and misdemeanors, including school related offenses, drug

possession, gang and weapons charges and transfer hearings where the prosecution asks the court to

send the case to adult court.,

The juvenile delinquency system emphasizes rehabilitation rather than punishment understanding that

adolescents brains do not fully develop until around the age of 25. That is why many youths can

become impulsive and often act without thinking about future consequences. Early intervention is

often critical and Attorney Arroyo works closely with families, counselors and community-based

organizations to present mitigation evidence to persuade prosecutors and judges to consider

alternative ways to rehabilitate a young person besides custody whenever possible. Rehabilitation

over punishment.

Mr. Arroyo understands the complexities of juvenile criminal defense and prioritizes compassionate,

client-centered defense. Always trying to preserve a young person’s future opportunities.

Initial strategy consultations are free and confidential. What are the facts, what is the applicable law

and are there any possible defenses.

Every child, and adult, deserve a second chance. One mistake should not define a lifetime
