Biography

Richard Shaklee, a partner at McLaughlin Stauffer & Shaklee, P.C., brings his legal prowess to bear in Employment and Labor matters, Commercial Litigation, Local Government affairs, and Mediation.

Mr. Shaklee's extensive expertise shines in the realm of employment law. He adeptly represents both employers and employees in various employment disputes, including contractual disagreements, harassment and discrimination claims, whistleblower cases, wrongful termination matters, wage disputes, and issues related to non-competition and non-solicitation agreements. His labor and employment practice also involves reviewing and preparing employment and severance agreements and review of employee manuals.

Mr. Shaklee’s seasoned representation extends to navigating complex legislation such as the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD), Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA), and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Mr. Shaklee's legal acumen has earned him the role of Labor Counsel for numerous public entities, including Manalapan Township, Wall Township, Hightstown Borough, and Jamesburg Borough. Currently, he serves as the Borough Attorney for the Borough of Interlaken and Board Counsel to the Asbury Park Public Library. His impressive credentials include a Diplomate Certificate in Municipal Law from the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Shaklee is a certified Rule 1:40 Qualified Mediator and holds a place on the New Jersey Superior Court Roster of Mediators. He has successfully mediated disputes in various domains, including employment, real estate, construction, and contractual matters.

As a respected legal mind, Mr. Shaklee has shared his insights at several seminars organized by the Monmouth Bar Association, particularly focusing on labor and employment law. He has also served as an Adjunct Instructor at Ocean County College, where he imparted knowledge on employment laws tailored for Human Resource Managers.
