Biography

Robert "Rob" Keating is a Dallas-Fort Worth criminal defense lawyer and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. Since being licensed to practice law in Texas in 2014, he has focused exclusively on criminal defense, representing clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges throughout North Texas. His practice includes DWI, assault, domestic violence, drug offenses, weapons charges, probation violations, and other serious criminal matters.

During his time at Michael & Associates, Rob has represented clients in more than 225 criminal cases, including more than 70 intoxication-related matters involving first-offense DWI, repeat DWI, and high blood alcohol concentration allegations. His experience also includes assault causing bodily injury, family violence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony drug possession, manufacture and delivery of controlled substances, unlawful weapons offenses, public intoxication, and probation-related cases. He represents clients from investigation and arrest through negotiations, motion practice, and trial preparation.

Before becoming an attorney, Rob served for 10 years in the United States Navy aboard attack submarines. His military service instilled the discipline, attention to detail, and calm decision-making that continue to define his approach to criminal defense. After leaving the Navy, he worked as a corporate trainer, further developing the communication and advocacy skills he now uses to represent clients in and out of the courtroom.

Rob attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale before earning his Juris Doctor from the SMU Dedman School of Law. While in law school, he gained valuable experience through internships with both the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Dallas County Public Defender's Office, providing him with firsthand insight into how criminal cases are investigated, prosecuted, defended, and resolved.

In addition to his criminal defense practice, Rob has extensive knowledge of firearms law and self-defense issues. He is an NRA-certified Pistol Instructor, Home Firearms Safety Instructor, and Range Safety Officer, and previously served as a Texas License to Carry Instructor
