About Robert WM. Johnson, III

Robert Wm. Johnson, III is a Partner at Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP. He has practiced Trusts and Estates and Corporate Law for over 45 years.

Bob has worked with numerous planned giving strategies and strives to protect the interest of multiple generations by achieving the donatives’ intent in the most tax efficient manner. He has received private letter rulings in coordinating Charitable Lead Trusts with private foundations.

In addition to serving as a past president of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York, Bob has been a member of the New York State Bar Association Trusts and Estates Executive Committee. He is a Fellow of The New York Bar Foundation and has lectured on over 30 panels for the NYSBA CLE.

Since 1995, Bob has been listed as one of The Best Lawyers in America, Trusts and Estates division and has been recognized as a New York State Super Lawyer.

Bob served on the St. Peters’ Health Partners Board of Directors as Past Chair, and also served as a member of the Fenimore Asset Management Funds Shareholder Advisory Council. He was a Board member of the Rensselaer ARC Foundation and has sat on several additional boards including the Parsons Child and Family Center, St. Anne’s Institute, the Rensselaer County Historical Society, LaSalle Institute, St. Gregory’s School for Boys, Sponsor-A-Scholar, and the Professional Advisory Committee of The Community Foundation, among others.

After receiving his B.A. from Middlebury College in 1969, Bob graduated from Albany Law School in 1972. He and his wife, Nancy, have two sons and four grandchildren.
