Biography

The Hon. Russell Brown is an arbitrator, mediator, and associate counsel to the firm. Before joining the federal judiciary, he practiced commercial, insurance, construction, estates, and general litigation in British Columbia and Alberta, and served as Professor and Associate Dean of Law at the University of Alberta.Justice Brown spent over ten years on Canada’s federal courts, including eight years as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, authoring leading judgments in commercial, constitutional, administrative, Aboriginal, and private law.He is the author of major legal texts and more than 40 law review articles, and his work has been cited by high courts throughout the Commonwealth. He continues to speak internationally to lawyers, judges, academics, and policymakers.Justice Brown provides strategic advice on significant appeals and complex matters across Canada, conducts domestic and international arbitrations in English and French, and mediates complex commercial and public law disputes.
