Biography

Ryan, originally from St. Louis, Missouri, was licensed in Colorado in August of 2013 and thereafter joined Robert C. Duthie III, P.C., the predecessor firm to DUTHIE SAVASTANO BRUNGARD, PLLC, where he has been a partner since 2015. Ryan focuses his practice on both civil and criminal litigation in Tribal, State and Federal courts and he provides counsel and support to a diverse range of clients throughout La Plata County and the surrounding areas, who have legal needs involving any of the following:

· General civil litigation – plaintiff and defense work

· Criminal defense – felonies/misdemeanors

· Civil/Insurance defense

· Personal injury

· Business and contracts

· Family law and divorce

Frequently, clients have issues that implicate multiple areas of law. Due to the diverse areas of practice that Ryan and his two partners engage in daily, he excels in advocating for the firm's clients both inside the courtroom and outside the courtroom and on a broad range of different issues. Ryan believes his client relationship dynamics are paramount to success and he takes pride in building and maintaining a strong relationship with clients. He is known for being prepared and meticulous to detail, however, similar to his partners, he is maybe most distinguished from others by his real and raw ability to simply be himself when representing a client. He relates to clients. He works to humanize situations. He is resolution-oriented. Yet, Ryan will go to court when your case requires it.

Ryan practices various courts around the southwest Colorado Area. He is a Colorado Criminal Justice Act Panel attorney and is often appointed by governmental authorities to represent clients, including those charged by the federal government with major crimes. Ryan is also a member of the Southwest Colorado Bar Association and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. He is committed to his local Durango community as well - helping to provide legal advice to various non-profits and serving as a member of the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado, a board he has been on for many years.

Ryan attended undergraduate school at the University of Missouri, Columbia graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. Ryan attended law school at the University of Tulsa College of Law where he served as Production Editor for the Tulsa Law Review and had his article, “Finally, Crack Sentencing Reform: Why It Should Be Retroactive”, published in 47 Tulsa L. Rev. 745(2012). In addition to receiving his J.D. with honors in 2012, Ryan was Phi Delta Phi and received the Cali Excellence for the Future Award (Legal Reasoning, Analysis, and Writing & Tulsa Law Review). He maintained summer internships with Dowd and Dowd, P.C., St. Louis, MO (2010); the U.S. Probation Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, St. Louis, MO (2010); and the Missouri Attorney General's Office, St. Louis, MO (2011). Before graduation, Ryan was Judicial Intern for the Honorable T. Lane Wilson, Federal Magistrate Judge, Tulsa, OK (2012).
