Biography

Growing up in a military and law enforcement family, Scott spent most of his childhood in Southern California before moving to Summerville, South Carolina at the age of twelve where his father had previously spent time as an Air Force pilot. Scott attended the Honors College of the College of Charleston, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2005. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude and was named the Top Honor Graduate, ranking number one in his graduating class. Scott graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina School Of Law in 2008, and was ranked seventh in his law school class. During law school, Scott received the Order of the Coif, Order of the Wig and Robe, five CALI awards (including Insurance Law, Evidence, and Constitutional Law), and was a member of the Moot Court team for which he was awarded the Order of the Barristers. During law school Scott served as a judicial intern the Honorable Margaret Seymour, United States District Judge, and spent a year working as a law clerk for Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman for the team handling the litigation surrounding the 2005 train derailment and chemical spill in Graniteville, South Carolina.Upon graduation from law school, Scott served as law clerk to the Honorable Terry L. Wooten, United States District Judge, District of South Carolina, from October of 2008 until October of 2010.Scott joined the Bell Legal Group of Georgetown, South Carolina in 2010. During his five years with the Bell Legal Group, Scott focused on products liability, medical malpractice, and civil rights cases and recovered over $20 million in jury verdicts and settlements for his clients.Scott was named a South Carolina Super Lawyers Magazine “Rising Star” 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and has been named a Super Lawyer for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Scott has also been recognized for obtaining one of the top 10 highest jury verdicts in the state for 2016; one of the top 50 highest non-jury verdicts in the nation for 2019; one of the top 10 highest jury verdicts in the state for 2021; one of the top 10 highest verdicts in the state for 2023; and one of the top 10 highest verdicts in the state for 2025.While Scott practices in a number of areas including trucking and auto collisions, medical malpractice, wrongful death, and civil rights, much of his work involves complex issues of insurance coverage. In multiple instances, Scott has obtained jury verdicts far in excess of the amount offered by the insurance carrier, including: two separate $1.5 million dollar jury verdicts in cases with a $0 offer by the insurance carrier (2013 and 2016); an $858,000 non-jury verdict in a case with a $75,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2019); an 825,000 jury verdict in a case with a $65,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2021); a $500,000 jury verdict in a case with a $25,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2022); a $2 million dollar jury verdict in a case with a $75,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2022), and a $5 million dollar jury verdict for a case with an $85,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2023).Scott has obtained jury verdicts far in excess of the amount offered by the insurance carrier, including: two separate $1.5 million dollar jury verdicts in cases with a $0 offer by the insurance carrier (2013 and 2016); an $858,000 non-jury verdict in a case with a $75,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2019); an 825,000 jury verdict in a case with a $65,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2021); a $500,000 jury verdict in a case with a $25,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2022); a $2 million dollar jury verdict in a case with a $75,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2022), and a $5 million dollar jury verdict for a case with an $85,000 offer by the insurance carrier (2023). Scott has one young child and resides in Georgetown. Scott previously trained as a collision repair technician, and worked as an automotive painter throughout college. Drawing on his time spent in Southern California, Scott spends his free time restoring classic full-size Chevrolets and has a particular interest in 1959-64 Impalas.
