Scott Raymond Austin

Scott Austin brings decades of experience to helping clients protect, enforce, and monetize intellectual property in a digital-first world. A Florida Bar Board Certified Intellectual Property attorney, Scott has spent the last 30 years obtaining and defending IP protections for innovative companies, from early-stage startups to major global brands. His mix of technical knowledge (including a programming background) and business insight (MBA and founder experience) shapes a practical approach. Every dispute strategy is tied to a clear business objective. Scott litigates and advises on patent, trademark, and copyright matters in federal court and before the ITC, and regularly handles TTAB proceedings, DMCA takedowns, and online defamation issues. He also counsels on unfair competition, trade dress, and trade secret misappropriation, along with complex technology transactions such as terms of service, cloud and SaaS agreements, SLAs, privacy policies, and COPPA compliance. Internationally, Scott serves on ICANN’s PICDRP Standing Panel and arbitrates domain disputes through the National Arbitration Forum under ICANN procedures. Before joining VLP, he was a partner at a national West Coast firm and taught IP law as an adjunct professor.
