Sergio Torres was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and moved to Miami, Florida at the age of seven. He has called Miami his home since. He graduated from Barbara Goleman Senior High School, where he not only excelled in academics, but was also a member of the football team, wrestling team, and track and field team. After high school, Sergio enrolled in Miami-Dade College as a full-time student while also working full-time at Publix Supermarkets. During this time, and due to his pressing schedule, Sergio learned the benefits of responsible time management. While attending Miami-Dade college, Sergio enrolled in a criminal justice course where he was first introduced to the study of law. After graduating from Miami-Dade college with his associates degree, Sergio was accepted to Florida International University, where he majored in Political Science and minored in economics.
Sergio attended Florida International University College of Law, where he was named to the Dean's List. During law school Sergio interned with a renowned South Florida family law attorney where he worked predominantly in family law cases. It was at this time that Sergio decided that he wanted to practice family law after graduation. Sergio began working as a family law attorney for a small law firm where he gained first hand experience in litigation involving dissolution of marriages, asset distribution, alimony, child support, time-sharing, parental responsibility, relocation, domestic violence, and probate. Sergio is also experienced in motion practice, contract drafting, administrative proceedings, hearings, depositions, discovery, negotiations, and attorney-client relations.
He currently focuses his practice on bodily injury claims and was selected to the 2024 SuperLawyers© Rising Stars list for his vast knowledge in Personal Injury, General Defense. His dedication and passion for his clients and the law makes him a key asset to the Hightower Team. Sergio combines his work ethic, diligence, and responsiveness to better serve his clients. When he’s not helping his clients, he can be found playing golf, playing bass, or simply taking a day trip to one of the many beautiful destinations in South Florida.
