Sheela Murthy is founder and president of the Murthy Law
Firm, a Baltimore County–based practice of roughly 100 professionals focusing
on U.S. immigration law. She earned an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and is
admitted to practice in New York, Maryland, and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
After practicing with major firms in New York and Baltimore, she launched the
Murthy Law Firm in 1994. A frequent speaker for the American Immigration
Lawyers Association and international bodies such as the International Bar
Association and the Center for International Legal Studies, Sheela also served
on the Board of Trustees of the American Immigration Council (2002–2009) and
co-chaired its Annual Immigrant Achievement Awards. She meets with U.S.
consular officials and USCIS centers to improve policy and client advocacy.
Fluent in Kannada, Hindi, and French, Sheela is a regular writer and media
commentator, has earned an AV rating from Martindale‑Hubbell, and has been
featured in The New York Times, The Daily Beast, and other outlets.
