Prior to law school, Sheryl completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Sheryl is licensed to practice law in Kansas and Texas.Before becoming a Senior Associate Attorney with the Wichita family law and divorce attorneys at Stange Law Firm, Sheryl spent six months working as a Law Clerk for the firm. Before joining Stange Law Firm, she most recently served as an Associate Judge for the Collin County Probate Court, a role she held since 2011. In this position, she presided over involuntary mental health commitment filings and hearings, often during off-hours and with minimal supervision. She also worked closely with hospital staff and law enforcement personnel, offering guidance on mental health procedures, and frequently speaks to public and private groups to educate them on the mental health legal process. In addition to her judicial role, Sheryl maintained a legal practice since 1993, representing clients in criminal, juvenile, and probate matters. Her work included handling jury and bench trials, mental health proceedings, competency hearings, and contested motions. She is committed to seeking rehabilitative and supportive alternatives for clients when appropriate, including programs such as Drug Court, Veterans Court, and mental health treatment services.
