Biography

Before Spiro Verras drafts a will or trust, he asks whom you want to provide for, whom you trust to act for you, and what you want your plan to accomplish. For a business owner, that conversation also turns to who will run the business and how ownership will pass to the next generation. Spiro welcomes clients back to revisit those choices as their circumstances change.

After the loss of a loved one, Spiro guides personal representatives through probate and helps trustees carry out their responsibilities. He takes time to explain the decisions ahead and which ones need attention first.

Spiro has practiced law since 1993. He earned his B.A. from Yale University and his J.D. from Tulane Law School, where he served as managing editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal. He founded Verras Law, P.A. in September 2003 and is the firm’s principal. He is licensed in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, and New York.

Earlier in his career, Spiro handled admiralty cases, class actions and consumer protection matters as a partner at Jones, Verras & Freiberg in New Orleans. That work still shapes how he reads a trust that a family may have to interpret years from now.

Outside his practice, Spiro is a trustee of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center and a director of the National Hellenic Society.

Spiro quotes a flat fee in writing before preparing documents. To arrange a consultation or ask about fees, email [email protected]. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Consultations in Tampa and St. Petersburg are by appointment.

Spiro regularly teaches continuing legal education programs on estate planning, probate, effective legal writing, legal ethics and professionalism. His teaching includes the Florida Trusts and Estates Thought Leaders’ Summit 2024.
