Stephanie M. Smith

Stephanie M. Smith practices primarily in the area of estate planning law. She received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Services from Georgetown University in 1977 and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1980. She is licensed to practice in both Kansas and Missouri, as well as holding inactive licenses in Colorado, Nevada and Arizona. Ms. Smith is a member of the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, the Kansas City Estate Planning Council, the Mid-America Planned Giving Council, the Kansas Women Attorneys Association and the American, Kansas and Johnson  County Bar Associations.

Ms. Smith was born in Manhattan, Kansas and grew up in the Shawnee Mission area, graduating from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1973. She returned to the Kansas City area in 1997, after practicing law in Nevada and Colorado for 17 years, and opened the firm of Stephanie M. Smith, Chartered, in Prairie Village. 

Ms. Smith also finds time to work with community organizations such as the Central Exchange, the  Center for Practical Bioethics, and the Overland Park Gardeners of America Club. She serves as Co-President of the Greater Kansas City Fiber Guild.  She is a past member of the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of America of the Midcontinent Council, the Mid-America Planned Giving Council, the St. Ann's Endlowment Committee and on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee for Rockhurst University.

In her free time Ms. Smith enjoys the outdoors, gardening, fiber arts, spending time with her family, cooking, and supporting local food and sustainable agriculture.
