Steve Milbrath leads Accel’s Litigation Practice, bringing diverse experience in the federal and state court systems as well as Arbitration and Mediation proceedings. Steve is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in both Business Litigation and Intellectual Property Law. He has over 40 years experience as a trial lawyer and the appeal of complex business cases, including all phases of patent and trademark litigation and a wide range of business disputes. Steve holds an AV-Preeminent peer review-rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Steve has assisted hundreds of business owners, entrepreneurs, executives and other stakeholders with protecting their important ideas, inventions and trade secrets. He has achieved considerable success protecting the rights and interests of his commercial clients in a wide range of business-related disputes.
Areas of Legal Practice
Steve litigates cases in Intellectual Property Law, Antitrust Law and the wide range of Business Disputes. He also counsels clients in business transactions and other practice areas, including copyright, trademark, non-competition and trade secret matters. Steve is based in the firm’s Orlando Office, but remains available to represent clients both regionally and throughout the Federal Court system.
Background
In law school Steve was the Survey Editor for the Oklahoma City University Law Review (1976) and the recipient of American Jurisprudence Book Awards in Commercial Paper and Remedies. Also while in law school, Steve served as law clerk to the Honorable Dwain Box, Chief Judge, Oklahoma Court of Appeals, Division I (1975-76). After graduating third in his class from law school, Steve served as law clerk to the Honorable George C. Young, Chief Judge, United States District Court, Middle District of Florida (1977-78). After completing his clerkship, followed by a period of private litigation practice, Steve served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida (1980-83). Later, after returning to private practice, Steve served as Special Assistant United States Attorney in winding up a complex case.
Recognition
Guardian ad Litem Award of Excellence, 2011-2016: Award presented to an attorney who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to pro bono case work for Orange County Bar Legal Aid Society Clients. Mr. Milbrath has been a pro bono panel member since 1992 and has primarily taken Guardian ad Litem (legal guardian) cases. He has assisted 30 children and provided over 300 hours on closed cases in the last 10 years.
