Steven Amir Hemmat

Steve Hemmat is the founder of Hemmat Law Group and has spent more than 35 years practicing civil and family law throughout Washington State. He began his legal career in public service, working in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Department of Justice as a Trial Attorney in the Civil Division’s Commercial Litigation Branch, as well as for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor. Over the years, he has represented clients on both sides of hundreds of matters and brings a practical, balanced perspective to every case. Steve is also a seasoned mediator and arbitrator, with a long-standing focus on alternative dispute resolution and the ways it can help parties reach better, more durable outcomes. He earned his undergraduate degree from Whitman College in 1983 and his J.D. from Lewis & Clark College in 1986, where he worked on the Environmental Law review and was inducted into the Cornelius Honor Society. Steve is licensed in all Washington state courts and several federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, and he has taught continuing legal education on family law and mediation.
