Biography

Steven J. Matz’s concentration is in motor vehicle law, with an emphasis on traumatic brain injury. He is a 1974 graduate of the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction and highest honors. In 1977, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University National Law Center. Mr. Matz is a member of the Bar of Michigan, Colorado, Texas, and Washington, D.C.  He is a member of the American Association for Justice, Oakland County Mediation Tribunal, and the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board as a Hearing Panel Chairman. He has been appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court as a Master. Mr. Matz lectures and publishes in ethics, marketing, client counseling, trial tactics, head injury, and legal research and writing. “The purpose of liability law,” says Mr. Matz, “is to fairly compensate an individual for loss in personal injury. We have the talent and ability to obtain the best result possible for each of our clients.” Mr. Matz has been rated AV Preeminent (the highest rating possible) by the legal publication Martindale-Hubbell; named by Michigan Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Michigan, a distinction made for only five percent of the attorneys in the state; and has been honored as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in the State of Michigan by the National Trial Lawyers. He has also been honored as one of America's top 100 high stakes litigators.  Crain's Detroit has named Mr. Matz one of Michigan's top attorneys. Most recently, Mr. Matz was honored with the "Litigator Award." The Litigator Award honors the top %1 of lawyers for superior litigation performance.
