Biography

Steve Lathrop has called Omaha home his entire life. After graduating from Roncalli High School, he chose a career in law, a path influenced early on by watching his father practice. Steve earned his Bachelor of Science from Creighton University in 1979 and his law degree in 1981. He was admitted to practice that same year in Nebraska’s state and federal courts and has spent decades representing injured workers and individuals facing life-changing harm. His practice focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and workers’ compensation matters. Steve has also been a leader in the legal community, serving on the board of the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys and later being elected President of the organization in 2000. Beyond private practice, Steve has a long record of public service. He was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2006, 2010, and 2018, serving 12 years total, including terms from 2007–2014 and 2019–2022. During his time as a senator, he held key leadership roles, including Chair of the Judiciary Committee, Chair of the Business and Labor Committee, and membership on the Legislature’s Executive Board.
