Biography

Thomas C. Brandstrader is a seasoned Chicago criminal defense attorney with 38 years of experience exclusively in criminal law, specializing in the defense and appeals of serious criminal matters throughout Illinois. He is among a select group of attorneys certified by the Illinois Supreme Court as lead counsel in death penalty cases, and has authored more than 500 appellate briefs, appearing before every appellate district in Illinois as well as the Seventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals. Mr. Brandstrader’s distinguished career includes service as an Assistant Public Defender in Cook County, significant union leadership roles, and appointment to the Illinois Supreme Court’s Pro-Bono and Capital Litigation Panels. He has consistently earned an AV rating, Martindale-Hubbell’s highest attorney distinction, and is recognized as a preeminent attorney in Criminal Appellate Law by Leading Lawyers. His professional affiliations include membership in the Illinois State Bar Association, the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Federal Defenders Association.
