Biography

Thomas F. Bennington, Jr., a partner with Lawrence Kamin's Businesses & Corporations and Estate Planning practices, is a recognized leader in business sales and purchases, commercial real estate, wealth protection, business succession planning, and wills and trusts.

Tom delivers to all of his clients, including businesses and business owners, real world practical advice based on his extensive management, policy making and business experiences drawn from his public service, charitable and legal background.

Tom has served the public in both civic and charitable activities, and is currently serving as a board member and executive committee member for United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, a board member for the Boy Scouts of America, Des Plaines Valley Council, board member for the Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and as committee chair for Boy Scout Troop 99 in Downers Grove.

During Tom's 23-year legal career, he has served many civic and charitable organizations, bringing his legal and political experience to positions that include commissioner, president, chair, board member or volunteer. Tom served as a County Board Member for DuPage County, Illinois from 1998-2010 and as a Commissioner for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. In these roles, Tom made policy, personnel and budgetary decisions for organizations which had combined budgets of over $600 million per year and over 2,000 employees.

As Chairman of DuPage County's Public Works Committee, Tom managed a $23 million department budget and over 200 employees.

His other associations as a board member or volunteer include Community Service Block Grant Advisory Board, The Conservation Foundation, Cook/DuPage Corridor Policy Committee, DeVry University Business Advisory Board, Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce Chamber CORE, DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau, DuPage Community Development Commission, DuPage Homeland Security Coordinating Council, DuPage Workforce Development Board, Illinois Prairie Trail Authority, National Association of Counties, North Central College Board of Trustees and President of the alumni association, North Central College Board of Trustee Associates, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, United Way of South DuPage, United Way of Suburban Chicago, University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service Board, DuPage Unit, Willowbrook/Burr Ridge Kiwanis, and Woodridge Community Resource Center.

Tom served on the operations committee of his prior law firm, which is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm and its over-130 employees. In this role, Tom was primarily responsible for preparation, analysis and compliance of the firm's budget. He lives in Downers Grove with his wife, Tracy, and sons Trey, Dan and Sean.
