Biography

Timothy Smith, a distinguished trial attorney, has been active in legal practice since graduating from Notre Dame Law School in 1992. His extensive litigation experience spans state and federal courts nationwide, tackling cases from Ventura County, California to Middlesex County, New Jersey. In 2017, Mr. Smith notably began representing Michigan cities and counties in the monumental National Prescription Opioid Litigation, one of the largest federal court cases in history. He also spearheaded early Paragard IUD cases in Michigan, which have become part of significant multi-district litigation in Georgia. He also represents a number of northern Michigan cities and counties in the PFAS MDL pending in Federal Court in south Carolina. Beyond complex federal cases, Mr. Smith has a remarkable record in civil litigation, achieving Oscoda County’s highest plaintiff’s verdict in 1998 for an auto accident case. As a skilled commercial litigator, he has successfully recovered over $13.4 million for a Credit Union client since 2017. Mr. Smith’s professional excellence is reflected in numerous accolades, including an AV-rating from Martindale-Hubbell at just 35, and 6 time honoree as Plaintiff’s Lawyer of the Year for Northern Michigan by Best Lawyers. He is recognized by his peers and the National Trial Lawyers as a top attorney and actively contributes to legal education through seminars and moderating. Residing in Beulah, Michigan, Mr. Smith enjoys fly fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
