Mr. Vyzas received his start as a legal aide in the New York State Department of Law, Real Estate Financing Bureau, where he reviewed cooperative, condominium and timeshare offering plans from red herring to black book, wrote memoranda in support of the Bureau's position on particular issues. He reviewed advertising literature for compliance with the Martin Act; New York's Blue Sky Law, and assisted Deputy Attorneys General in enforcing the warehouse provisions of the Attorney General's regulations. Mr. Vyzas started reviewing timeshare offering plans in 1986, one year after the initial adoption of the timeshare regulations in New York.
At the age of 32, Mr. Vyzas was appointed General Counsel for a New Jersey savings bank in which he served for 12 years. As General Counsel, he was involved in all forms of litigation involving bank fraud, consumer fraud, bankruptcy fraud, fraudulent transfers, general bankruptcy, foreclosures, loan collections, commercial litigation, and sale of REOs. He attended all board and audit sub-committee meetings and dealt with issues involving corporate governance. Mr. Vyzas also has experience representing lenders before the FDIC and New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance on various regulatory issues including the Community Investment Act where he successfully appealed an unsatisfactory Community Investment Act rating.
Prior to working as General Counsel for that New Jersey savings bank, Mr. Vyzas represented lenders in financing transactions, commercial and residential foreclosure actions, individual and corporate clients in real estate financing, purchasers and developers involved in timeshare, cooperative and condominium developments. After having clerked at the New York Attorney General's office for three years in the Real Estate Finance Bureau. He was hired to head the Co-op and Condominium department of a small boutique law firm in Brooklyn, New York which represented developers in conversion of condominiums and co-ops throughout Manhattan and developers who built new construction condominium developments in the outer boroughs. Mr. Vyzas also represented national lenders as bank counsel in real estate closings, and was in-house counsel for Gelt Funding, precursor to GFI Capital, one of the largest privately owned finance companies in the country.
