Biography

William A. (Bill) Simon is a native of New York City and grew up in Pelham, a nearby Westchester suburb, where he attended public schools. In 1969 he graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in History. He obtained a J.D. (Doctor of Laws) degree from Washington University in 1974 and an LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree from New York University in 1983. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1976. Since then he has practiced law continuously with law firms in Manhattan. Since 1992 he has been a member of the law firm of McGarry & Simon, which has offices at 1185 Avenue of the Americas between 46th and 47th Streets.

Throughout his career, Bill has represented individuals and small businesses in a wide range of legal fields, always maintaining a special concentration in the field of trusts and estates. He regularly handles estate planning, estate administration and litigation in the Surrogate's Court, such as will contests, discovery proceedings and contested accountings.

He also frequently represents clients in real estate matters including purchases, sales and leasing of houses, condominiums, cooperative apartments and commercial properties.

Bill has organized and advised many small business entities including corporations, Limited Liability Companies (LLC's), partnerships, and charitable organizations.

An experienced courtroom attorney, Bill Simon has represented clients in property ownership disputes, personal injury matters, property damage claims and other civil litigation in both the New York State and Federal courts.

Outside of his professional life, Bill is a jazz and classical music fan and has served on the boards of directors of several musical organizations. He also enjoys cycling, kayaking and other active sports. He resides in Manhattan and was the board chairman of his cooperative apartment building for many years.
