Biography

William B. "Kip" Darwin joined Holcombe Bomar after graduating from law school in 1990 and became a shareholder of the firm in 1995. Kip has been a litigator since 1990 and has primarily represented corporations and individuals named as defendants in lawsuits. He has also brought claims against product manufacturers, on behalf of persons who have suffered bodily injuries or who have sustained substantial damage to their homes or other property. Kip's main practice areas are healthcare litigation (medical negligence), product liability, commercial litigation, government defense, and personal injury defense. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a Certified Circuit Court Mediator through the South Carolina Board of Arbitrator and Mediator Certification.

Kip has tried a wide variety of cases since 1990, including lawsuits alleging medical negligence, defective products, excessive use of force by law enforcement officers, violations of state and federal environmental laws, breach of contract, mismanagement of corporate assets, and unlawful discharge from employment. Kip enjoys the challenges of a diverse litigation practice. He strives to achieve the best results possible for his clients, while also maintaining strong, positive relationships with the judiciary and other members of the Bar.

Kip was born and raised in Spartanburg. He graduated from the Spartanburg Day School in 1983 and graduated from Wofford College in 1987 Summa Cum Laude, with degrees in History and Spanish. While at Wofford he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and received the David Duncan Wallace award from the History department. He lettered in Cross Country and was a member of the NAIA All-Academic Team in 1985 and 1986. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1990, where he was a member of the Moot Court Bar and the Palmetto Law Society.

Kip is married to Lauri Darwin, who also is a member of the South Carolina Bar. Kip and Lauri have one child, a son named Tripp. Kip's hobbies include running, reading, coaching youth sports, and trying (on two surgically-repaired knees) to prevent Tripp from scoring within 15 feet of the basket.
