Biography

Bill Powers is a highly regarded litigator and a seasoned counselor. His reputation stems from a natural ability to relate both analytically and intuitively with clients involved in family difficulties. Board Certified in 1988, Bill has maintained a highly successful and specialized practice in family law. He started his career at Legal Aid in the heyday of the late 1970s and moved to the private sector in 1982. Since then, Bill has been involved in many of the high-stakes cases litigated in Central Texas, and his track record is as impressive as his clientele. Bill continues to participate generously in the legal community. He has served two terms as president of the Board of Directors of Legal Aid of Central Texas, and presents at legal conferences arranged by organizations such as the Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation, the University of Texas School of Law's Continuing Legal Education Programs, Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, and local bar groups. Martindale Hubbell, a national legal organization that analyzes attorney qualifications through a peer review process, awarded Bill their highest rating. Judges and other colleagues have described him as having attained "preeminent legal ability" and a "very high professional standard of conduct and ethics." Bill's facility with legal topics is complemented by his judgment and humor. He handles sensitive custody and divorce cases involving complex financial and legal issues and difficult family dynamics. He believes in a solutions-orientated approach to his client's case, and achieves excellent outcomes through both negotiation and trial as necessary. In the emotionally fraught world of family law litigation, he is a calming influence with a mature and strategic approach to conflict resolution.
