Diversity

Carroll, Burdick & McDonough (CBM) recognizes that diversity is critical to our principal mission as a law firm—helping clients understand and resolve issues that arise from operating in a diverse world. We also value diversity because we firmly believe that it attracts talented individuals; enables creative and innovative thinking; and promotes morale, productivity, and the success of both our firm and its clients.

We are committed to recruiting, hiring, and retaining employees from all walks of life. CBM recognizes and cultivates commonly recognized characteristics of diversity—including race, gender, age, religion, country of origin, sexual orientation and disability. But our diversity also goes well beyond traditional definitions. Our attorneys have lived and worked in many different countries and cultures, and come from many different career backgrounds. We celebrate differences amongst our employees, cultivating an atmosphere that values inclusion and empowers our employees to succeed. In addition, many of our employees are active in promoting diverse interests and community activities.

CBM has demonstrated its commitment to diversity in the following ways, among others: CBM Diversity Committee—comprised of partners, associates, managers, and staff—conducts a variety of programs and initiatives to: (1) promote morale, productivity, and success of its employees; (2) celebrate and increase awareness of our unique perspectives, heritage, and history; and (3) further our long-standing commitment to diversity. CBM attorneys have been honored with Stakeholder 100 Awards, which are given to 100 of the most gifted associates of color in law firms throughout the United States. The awards were conceived by a consortium of General Counsels and other high-level legal officers from more than 40 of the world's largest corporations.

CBM has supported and adopted the diversity initiatives proposed by a number of different organizations including, among others, the Bar Association of San Francisco and the Contra Costa Bar Association. CBM and its attorneys are active members of many organizations committed to promoting diversity in the legal profession and our communities, including the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the California Minority Counsel Program, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area, California Women Lawyers, the Queen’s Bench Bar Association, and many other organizations.  CBM has long provided benefits to domestic partners.
