Defending and Counseling Business in Environmental Law and Regulation

Copeland Cook’s team in Environmental Law is experienced in handling the increasingly complex environmental issues faced by businesses today. From counseling clients on federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations to representing clients before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts, our attorneys are equipped to address and handle the many environmental issues encountered by businesses.

We have represented clients in such environmental matters as:

  • Commercial transactions that feature an environmental-law aspect.

Our team has helped clients in private disputes concerning environmental issues, such as suits arising out of oilfield contamination and remediation, land use disputes, nuisance claims, and toxic torts. We’ve defended our clients against claims of land and water contamination in actions brought by the Environmental Protection Agency. Our lawyers have also regularly appeared before state and federal regulatory agencies, including the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, the Mississippi Oil and Gas Board, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The environmental aspects of commercial transactions can include preparing transaction documents to allocate potential environmental risks and liabilities and counseling clients on due diligence in real-estate transactions. Our Environmental Law team has expertise in this area as well, seeking to forestall potential litigation in the future.
