Sirote has a long, proud history of representing the public and private sides of the equation in the arenas of municipal finance and governmental relations. Whether government entities and public subdivisions, or private parties appearing before them, we are there for our clients, seeking win-win solutions to legal or business issues with experienced advocates who understand the menu and complexities of governmental authority and the legislative and executive processes behind it. Sirote is well-known and well-regarded for efficient, practical and politically viable solutions for a host of issues facing the public sector as well as private parties who must operate in this sector.

Understanding both sides of the equation in this arena is critical to our promise to be there for our clients. Not only is Sirote & Permutt adept at representing non-profit credit providers and government entities, whether city, county or state, taking a leadership role in the National Association of Counties and the Alabama League of Municipalities, but also Sirote is listed in the Bond Buyer’s Municipal Marketplace, a listing of nationally recognized bond counsel, as bond counsel, special tax counsel and underwriter’s or issuer’s counsel on tax supported and revenue bond issues. We are also fortunate to represent numerous private parties, as clients, when they need to reach project goals in the public sector, appearing before municipalities, governmental authorities and public agencies for a host of matters including credit facilities, permitting and licensing, condemnation and eminent domain, tax and controversy matters and litigation.

Diversity

Sirote & Permutt has made diversity in the workplace a key pillar of the firm since we opened our doors nearly 70 years ago. Because we understand that everyone benefits from a diverse group of people coming together to share ideas shaped by their individual experiences, Sirote & Permutt is home to lawyers from a wide array of backgrounds.  

The promotion of religious and racial tolerance always has been and always will be an important aspect of our firm. Several Sirote attorneys were at the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement and were involved in some of the most significant causes of the era. 

Today, more than a quarter of our attorneys are women or minorities. In the 1970s we hired our first female attorney, and she became one of Alabama’s first female partners at a law firm. A few years later Sirote became the first major law firm in Alabama to welcome an African-American partner, again leading the state in diversity.

Our attorneys hold numerous professional and civic leadership roles and have been recognized locally and statewide for their contributions to the communities in which we practice law.

At Sirote & Permutt, we don’t just talk about inclusion and diversity. We live it every day, and we believe our people and our clients continue to benefit significantly because of it.
