Public Sector

Construction and engineering legal advice for public sector clients

Within our construction and engineering group, we have a team of lawyers who specialize in helping public sector and publicly funded clients deliver their capital structures on time and on budget, within the governance, funding, regulatory, reputational and other contexts.

Experienced public sector legal advice

Our construction and engineering public sector team are not just experienced in their chosen field; they have all advised public sector clients on regeneration projects, major infrastructure projects, highways projects and waste water project, and O&M contracts. We understand the challenges that you face – limited resources, the need to restrict services to cut spending, balancing the political policies with legislative requirements; all with the goal of achieving an optimal delivery of service.

All members of our team have successfully delivered projects with challenging but clearly defined project timetables and budgets, through robust contract drafting, project support and dispute resolution advice. Our extensive knowledge of current risk trends and innovative approaches combined with our experience working with public and private sector clients means that we can give you the very best advice.

Our lawyers ensure that you will be properly advised on construction and engineering projects and, if necessary, are assisted in managing the resolution of any disputes that may arise. We have advised on projects in the following sectors:

  • education
  • healthcare
  • highways
  • housing
  • schools
  • prisons
  • waste

In the education sector, we work for over 100 education institutions. We advise many central, federal, state and local government clients. Finally, we have acted on some of the biggest contracts between the public and private sectors, whether privately financed or otherwise.

We are currently advising:

  • a central government in relation to the procurement of a new sewage treatment plant (project value circa £100m)
  • a public sector client in relation to a tender for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of a new energy from waste facility
  • a local government client on the complete refurbishment of its civic facilities to make them more accessible to the local community
  • various education sector clients on projects with a cumulative value of over £1bn, including new living and teaching accommodation and sports facilities
  • a local government client in relation to the procurement of a significant mixed-use regeneration project
We use lessons learned from previous projects, anticipating the concerns of stakeholders so as to provide you with solutions before they become problems. Advice that is practical from the outset means less time spent and less money wasted – particularly important in the environment in which our public sector clients operate.
