Diversity

Diversity at Godwin Lewis PC

At Godwin Lewis the Firm's commitment to inclusiveness is not only a business imperative, but also a crucial and effective component of the success that we have enjoyed over the years. Godwin Lewis has a long history of embracing diversity and is a past recipient of the Thomas L. Sager award for the Southwest region, which is awarded to law firms in recognition of minority hiring practices by the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.

Our five-member Executive Committee is comprised of 40% women, plus our named shareholder, Marilea Lewis, is one of the few women whose name is on the door of a top 100 law firm in Texas. Minorities and women hold other leadership roles within our firm such as Practice Group Chairs, Directors, Managers and Committee members. Our diverse group of leaders, attorneys and staff members come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, giving us a global perspective that our clients find beneficial.

Godwin Lewis' culture of diversity extends to our community. We provide leadership and legal counsel to many publicly funded organizations and public-purpose organizations. In addition, we are committed to giving back to our communities' non-profits. Godwin Lewis encourages a firm-wide commitment to such organizations as the United Way, Jewish Community Center, and the Dallas Greater Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Individual employees also hold or have held leadership positions on such boards as Junior Achievement, the Housing Crisis Center, Children's Medical Center of Dallas, Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS), South Texas College of Law, the SMU Dedman School of Law, and the Y-Me National Breast Cancer Organization.

Godwin Lewis believes that embracing diversity ultimately results in: enhanced individual and collective learning opportunities; better client relations and client services; a sharpened competitive advantage in a global, demographically-fluid economy; broader creativity; expanded perspectives, and, thus, better decision-making; and heightened self-image among all individuals and groups. We celebrate our differences, but more importantly, we recognize and respect the fundamental commonality that we share as equal human beings. That, indeed, is the real message of diversity.
