With decades of experience, we assist people in navigating the emotional and often complex legal terrain associated with premarital agreements, custody issues, divorce and related family matters. Our attorneys apply their in-depth knowledge to protecting your interests regarding custody and visitation, alimony and child support, allocation of assets, and post-dissolution issues.

Whatever route we take in pursuit of your interests, we remain sensitive to the often fragile family relationships and financial resources at stake.

Our domestic relations practice was established by an attorney who, in addition to his extensive legal experience, has an advanced degree in marital and family counseling. With experienced lawyers in our Westport, New Haven and Hartford offices, our family law group meets the needs of clients in every area of the state. As a multi-service firm, we draw whenever needed on the knowledge and resources of the lawyers in our related practice groups, including criminal, bankruptcy, estate and probate and appellate. Our experience enables us to deliver our services efficiently and cost-effectively.

When there are children of a relationship, our experience proves valuable in helping you resolve questions of custody, visitation and child support. The issues surrounding children can be complex. Our attorneys counsel you in matters such as formulating a parenting plan and planning for your children's health, medical and insurance needs. An educational support order can protect both you and your children by providing for the direct expenses of college tuition, costs and travel, and related expenses for test preparation, tutoring and computers.

A core focus of our domestic relations practice is divorce and the legal issues it raises regarding children, finances, property and support. We apply our in-depth knowledge of divorce law and practice to help you understand your options and analyze your needs. Whether the case requires litigation or is better resolved through mediation or negotiation, our emphasis is on achieving the best outcome for our client. An increasingly popular option among our clients is collaborative divorce, in which both spouses agree to stay out of court and work cooperatively to resolve the divorce.

Key considerations in any divorce are division of assets and provisions for spousal support. We help you sort through the myriad questions raised by issues such as periodic versus lump-sum alimony payments; cost-of-living adjustments; medical, disability and life insurance; real estate and asset allocation; and retirement benefits. . As appropriate, we work with other attorneys in the firm skilled in business and tax matters, estate planning, real estate and civil litigation.
