Insurance Coverage and Risk Management

Every day businesses and individuals submit insurance claims, seeking coverage for losses and claims. Every day insurance companies deny coverage for billions of dollars relating to these claims. Holland & Hart's Insurance Coverage and Risk Management Group is highly experienced in providing advice and objective guidance on how to optimize the place where managing risk meets managing costs.

Members of the group are skilled insurance coverage litigators who also provide legal and practical advice before claims or litigation arise. Our attorneys have extensive knowledge in reviewing and analyzing risk. We help determine the best method for managing that risk, including identifying appropriate insurance coverage where necessary.

Our group has a wide range of experience with different lines of insurance coverage. We have counseled or litigated matters involving commercial property, business interruption, commercial general liability, OCIP and CCIP, directors and officers, professional liability, bonds and surety, and title insurance. 

Litigation
Holland & Hart's Insurance Coverage and Risk Management Group provides experienced and aggressive counsel at all stages of insurance coverage disputes, including claims that are made or are subject to litigation. Our group also provides independent counsel for insured parties who have received a defense from their insurance company subject to an extensive reservation of rights. Many clients mistakenly believe that the attorney hired by the insurance company can advocate for them on coverage issues, but that is not the case. Insured parties should engage independent counsel to ensure that their interests are properly protected.

In the event of adverse third-party judgments, we represent the rights of insureds so they receive the full benefit and protection owed under their insurance contracts.

Risk Management
As part of our practice, our attorneys meet with clients to review their business activities and assess whether their current insurance products properly cover their risks. We also review contracts for accuracy and compliance with indemnity and insurance requirements. Our attorneys help clients save money by recognizing and eliminating unneeded insurance coverages. With extensive contacts with agents and brokers throughout the United States, we can help you find insurance coverage for unusual or peculiar risks.

  • We make a conscious effort to ensure that women and diverse attorneys are included as voting members of our committees of importance within the firm.
  • We work closely with law school deans and placement directors in an effort to identify women and diverse law students who are interested in working at Holland & Hart.
  • Holland & Hart offers medical and other benefits to partners of gay and lesbian employees on the same terms as it does to spouses of employees.
  • We created an Indian Law Practice Group and actively recruited Native American law students and lateral hires.
  • Each year we contribute to such scholarship funds as the Colorado Native American Indian Scholarship Fund, the Sam Cary Scholarship Endowment Fund, the Colorado Asian American Bar Scholarship Fund, the Colorado Hispanic Bar Scholarship Fund, and the Colorado Women's Bar Association Scholarship Fund.
  • In partnership with the University of Idaho School of Law, we sponsor a "Law by Day, Jazz by Night" each year for undergraduate minority students who have an interest in law.
  • We took a leadership role in organizing and supporting the Colorado Pledge Group's Minority First Year Law Student Summer Clerk Program. Through this program, law firms agreed to add at least one diverse first year law student to their summer clerk program.
  • We were involved in the creation of the Cross-Professional Business Networking Group, where diverse attorneys in our community can meet and network with non-attorney professionals of color. We view this as a way to help diverse attorneys increase their business development possibilities.
