Professional Liability

When your reputation is at stake, Meagher & Geer lawyers are ready to defend you. We represent professionals including accountants, architects and engineers, insurance agents and brokers, brokerage firms, stockbrokers, and financial advisors, land surveyors, property managers, property inspectors, real estate appraisers, agents and brokers, and lawyers. We have experience with a wide range of matters including:

  • Errors and omissions liability
  • Breach of fiduciary duty, securities and common law fraud, and negligence
  • Regulatory investigations and procedures
  • Design and construction defects
  • Product failures
  • Title, real estate, and insurance agent liability
  • Licensing and disciplinary proceedings
  • Copyright and trademark infringement

Meagher & Geer partners Brad Jones and Charles Jones are co-authors of the American Bar Association, Professional Liability Litigation Committee “50 State Survey of Legal Malpractice Law,” (published in February 2009). The Survey is a compendium of state-specific articles addressing the elements, defenses and key issues common to claims against lawyers.

Our separate Professional Liability - Health Care, Construction, and Securities and Financial Services industry practice groups complement our general professional liability practices group. We are active participants in the American Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. One of our lawyers has spoken extensively on liability and insurance coverage for claims against design professionals. Others have contributed to ABA-approved 50-state practice guides. These are but a few representative examples of the extensive experience our lawyers bring to this practice area.

The Meagher & Geer law firm is approved by many insurance carriers as professional liability panel counsel on either a state or regional basis. We value the relationships and trust that we have built in the professional and insurance communities.
