If there is one industry that demonstrates the scope of Nexsen Pruet, it is transportation. We work with some of the leading companies in the world on varied and complicated legal issues in the transportation sector.
Aviation
We are proud to have partnered with Boeing as the company decided to develop a huge facility near Charleston, S.C. to build its 787 Dreamliner. We helped negotiate economic incentives and assisted with land acquisition, zoning and permitting. We continue to serve Boeing proudly.
We also helped a regional start up airline locate in South Carolina. Whether it is negotiating incentives or dealing with employee grievances, Nexsen Pruet can be of assistance.
Automotive
When a major employer began looking at South Carolina for a manufacturing facility for off-road vehicles, the company turned to Nexsen Pruet to negotiate economic incentives and to assist with site location, zoning and permitting. That relationship has continued for some 15 years.
We provide a range of services for businesses in the transportation industry, including:
Maritime
Nexsen Pruet also has a significant maritime practice. Our attorneys are actively involved with the Port of Charleston. We are members of the Maritime Association of the Port of Charleston, the Propeller Club of Charleston and other maritime-related groups. We represent the Charleston Branch Pilots Association (the Harbor Pilots), the Charleston Navigation Co. and the State Ports Authority.
We can assist with ship purchases, vessel mortgages, marine finance transactions, insurance, negligence claims and vessel arrests. Our firm has successfully defended a novel issue involving COGSA package limitation relating to a cargo claim.
Trucking & Distribution
For the trucking industry, we have negotiated economic incentives, handled wrongful death lawsuits, provided real estate services and assisted with regulatory requirements. We are experienced in trying both accident and product liability cases before juries in both state and federal courts. We focus on serious injury, death and other catastrophic cases, including environmental and chemical spills.
For the railroad industry, we have represented the railroads themselves as well as freight companies and supporting businesses. Our litigation team has served clients facing lawsuits alleging wrongful deaths and environmental spills.
As you can see, we take great pride in working with leading companies that move us.

Nexsen Pruet recognizes the importance of having lawyers that reflect the broad diversity within our client base, our jury system, our colleagues, and our community at large. To that end, we are committed to recruiting minority candidates, reducing minority attrition, supporting minority organizations, and expanding and improving our diversity program. We also recognize that the pursuit of a diverse workplace is, and should be, ongoing.
As a means of promoting these interests, we created the Nexsen Pruet Diversity Scholarship Program. Prior to creating the scholarship, we completed a written plan that identified methods by which the firm could recruit, hire, and retain minority lawyers. The plan includes expanding our recruitment efforts to other law schools, increasing recruitment of lateral minority and female candidates, and continuing to develop and enhance our relationships with minority law organizations such as the Black Law Students Association. Our goal is to identify qualified minority candidates who may be potential members of the firm.
Nexsen Pruet understands the need for and value of increased diversity, and we are strengthening and building upon our commitment to provide an inclusive environment within our firm. As such, we will maintain a continuing focus on doing whatever we can to achieve the important and necessary goal of diversity.
