Taft has an extensive appellate practice. While we have the experience and skill to fight our clients' battles before judges, juries, arbiters and administrative law judges, we view litigation within the larger framework of our clients' business and/or personal objectives. Not every dispute requires the commitment of executive time or the expense and disruption of otherwise profitable commercial relationships that frequently ensue when formal litigation is pursued. We have employed a variety of alternative dispute resolution techniques, including some we have created to meet the needs of clients engaged in confidential work in highly competitive industries. While we are prepared to aggressively try cases to verdict, alternatives such as mediation may provide a more cost-effective solution to solving a problem. Our litigators have represented clients and acted as mediators and arbitrators in all forms of alternative dispute resolution forums.
We also provide litigation readiness e-Discovery services to clients facing complex investigations and potential litigation. We recognize the advantage of and have used compressed discovery schedules and limitations on discovery as a way to reduce the cost of the discovery phase of litigation. The firm is a member of CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, and a number of our attorneys are CPR or American Arbitration Association arbitrators.
A growing part of our practice involves work to minimize the risks and exposure of doing business in today's litigious world. Avoidance of litigation is one of our primary goals. Our attorneys work with our clients to define, assess and minimize litigation risks and to develop programs to help them comply with specific contractual requirements and with the laws and regulations that affect their business.
