With a 131 year history, Vandeventer Black’s maritime litigation team is nationally known for representing clients in collisions and allisions, vessel foreclosure, charter party disputes, vessel arrests & seizures, enforcement and defense of maritime liens, oil spills and pollution, title disputes, Jones Act, Coast Guard Proceedings and cargo matters.
Our construction and government contracts team reresents clients in mediation and arbitration in an effort to resolve disputes in a cost-efficient manner that promote the opportunity for future business interactions. However, we also have an effective litigation practice that focuses on contracts, payments, settlements, claims, terminations and other industry specific disputes.
Other areas of litigation include professional liability defense for engineers, architects, physicians, accountants and lawyers, medical malpractice defense, as well as condemnation and land use for municipalities, utility companies and community associations issues.
Our attorneys are licensed in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, District of Columbia, New York, and Maryland, with extensive experience in state and federal courts on the East and Gulf Coasts of the U.S. Our federal court litigation experience includes multi-state litigation. We are involved in appellate practice in the First, Second, Fourth and Fifth Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court.
