Verrill Dana helps clients to create, develop, and instill corporate procedures and processes to assure compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act. While nearly all organizations recognize the need for guidance through the “visa” process, most organizations do not fully appreciate the need for administrative compliance. Failure to adequately adhere to immigration rules and regulations can result in significant liability, not only for the organization, but possibly individuals within the organization as well.

Often, immigration matters presented by our clients involve other laws, such as employment and wage payment laws, tax regulations, ERISA, and corporate structuring and finance laws. With experienced attorneys in all these areas, Verrill Dana is prepared to identify and handle the wide variety of legal issues that may arise in the context of a client’s immigration case. We also partner with other firms to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions for day-to-day immigration questions.

E-Verify
As a U.S. employer, you are required to verify the employment eligibility of your workforce by completing and filing the federal Form I-9. This has historically been a time consuming manual task. Depending on the state(s) in which your company does business, or whether you have a contract with a state government agency, you may be required to participate in the E-Verify program. E-Verify is the web-based system used by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration to electronically verify the employment eligibility of newly hired employees.

Verrill Dana can assist clients with an effective I-9 compliance solution. The I-9 form appears simple, but the process and issues underlying the form are complex. We can also advise clients as to the pros and cons of E-Verify registration.

Without effective assistance in maintaining the balance between employing a legal workforce and avoiding discrimination, employers are vulnerable to fines, lawsuits, and other serious penalties.
