Recent cases in which we have had significant involvement include:
- Defending the first case ever tried under the Economic Espionage Act of 1996, resulting in nineteen of twenty-one counts either being dismissed or resulting in acquittal. After two rounds of appeals and three different sentencing hearings, our client was sentenced to a year of probation and a $5,000 fine.
- Defending a local construction executive, charged with multiple-counts of conspiring to avoid paying the federally-mandated prevailing wage on three separate apartment construction projects. Shortly before trial, we negotiated a plea agreement that resulted in the client being sentenced to two years of probation.
- Representing one of the county's largest government contractors in a grand jury investigation that ultimately led to the indictment and conviction of numerous individuals. Through our vigorous work during the investigation, we persuaded prosecutors not to indict our client.
- Defending a physician accused of dozen of counts of improperly prescribing narcotics to a patient, with whom he also had a personal relationship. Our investigation and motion practice persuaded the prosecutors to enter into an agreement under which our client received a sentence of probation.
In addition to work on behalf of defendants and potential defendants, our lawyers routinely represent non-target individuals and businesses in response to subpoenas for testimony and documents. We also represent businesses and individuals who are victims of crimes to provide them with a voice in the proceedings and to assist in obtaining full and adequate restitution.
