Biography

J. Robert Renner practices in the areas of commercial, insurance coverage, products liability and intellectual property litigation, representing insurers and other business enterprises. Mr. Renner is admitted to practice in all California state courts, as well as before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts for the Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern Districts of California. He has conducted trials in federal and state courts and arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association, JAMS, the Independent Film & Television Alliance and other institutions.

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Renner served as a Deputy Attorney General for the California Department of Justice.

Mr. Renner is a 1990 graduate of the University of California Berkeley School of Law, where he was a member of the California Law Review, and a magna cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College.

Representative Matters: Representing London Market Insurers in a complex insurance coverage action pending in Florida concerning environmental liabilities. Conducted a jury trial in September 2018. Viad Corp v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's, London, Ninth Judicial Circuit Case No. 48-2007-CA-3855-0.; Representing certain London Market Insurers in a coverage action concerning environmental liabilities at the Port of Los Angeles. Completed a Phase I bench trial in August 2018. City of Los Angeles v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's, London, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC588876.; Representing Wright Medical Technology, a leading manufacturer of orthopedic devices, in the defense of a number of product liability cases involving metal-on-metal prosthetic hip implants.
