About this firm

When the partners came up with the idea of creating Allen Stahl + Kilbourne, they wanted to create a law firm that is based on establishing personal relationships with clients. This basic philosophy is what our attorneys strive to achieve with every client we represent. We want our clients to feel that we understand them and we want to earn their trust.

Allen Stahl + Kilbourne is a Firm with a diverse history. Our story began with Robert E. Dungan who moved to Asheville in 1983 and started a law practice. He eventually partnered with Jeff Stahl and James Kilbourne to form Dungan, Kilbourne & Stahl, P.A. Then in September of 2019, Derek Allen decided to leave a very successful career with a large law firm and merge his practice with Dungan, Kilbourne & Stahl, P.A. to form Allen Stahl + Kilbourne.

In addition to Derek J. Allen, Jeffrey K. Stahl, James W. Kilbourne, Jr., and Robert E. Dungan, our Firm has a group of unique and highly qualified attorneys. Like Asheville, some of our attorneys have deep roots in Western North Carolina , while others arrived more recently and are here to stay. Regardless, each attorney brings with them a unique and interesting background. You’ll see from our attorney bios that we have a broad range of experiences and interests. Also, we would be nothing without our wonderful staff and they are an integral part of our team. Together we form a fun, smart, and talented group to solve your problems.

The vision of the Firm was to create a team atmosphere which allows us to use our collective backgrounds and experiences to better represent our clients. Our attorneys regularly collaborate with one another to craft strategies and approaches tailored specifically for each client. We are not simply a group of individual attorneys practicing in one office. We are a team.
