He began as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office from 1988 to 1992, presenting over 1,000 cases to the Grand Jury and conducting numerous jury trials. He also served as a Special Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey from 1991 to 1992, further strengthening his trial advocacy skills.

A graduate of New York University, where he earned his B.A. in 1981, and Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where he obtained his J.D. in 1985, Lazzaro is committed to providing skilled, experienced and aggressive legal representation. He has a proven track record of success on very serious and complex cases. He is a highly skilled litigator who can lead a jury to a not guilty verdict and has done so on multiple criminal cases. Since 1992, Lazzaro has focused on criminal defense, representing clients in state and federal courts. He founded Clifford E. Lazzaro, P.C. in 1997 to provide dedicated legal representation in criminal law, family law, and municipal court matters. His practice includes handling complex trials and appeals in New Jersey on federal and state criminal matters as well as family law matters including high net worth contested divorce cases involving alimony, equitable distribution of marital assets, valuation of marital assets, custody and child support issues. The firm also concentrates on domestic violence cases involving Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO’S) and companion criminal charges as well as DUI cases. In 1997, he established Clifford E. Lazzaro, P.C., a boutique law firm dedicated to defending clients in criminal trials and appeals including Post Conviction Relief (PCR). His practice includes representing individuals facing state criminal charges in New Jersey or federal charges in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. His litigation experience allows him to develop effective defense strategies tailored to each case.
