About this firm

HPL- Intellectual Property Law, provides legal counsel and litigation services in intellectual property law. Attorney Marc E. Hankin and his associates combine experience and passion to help clients protect their most valuable resource — their intellectual property.

At HPL, we find that a few time-tested maxims are key to the successful results we have achieved and our clients’ overall satisfaction.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure: HPL can provide an intellectual property audit to determine your needs and to spot any red flags of risk to your intellectual property. Whenever possible, we help our clients to avoid litigation.

Measure twice, cut once: In those situations in which intellectual property litigation is unavoidable, there is no substitute for preparation. From preliminary injunctions to stop infringement of copyright, patent or trademark, to appeals of court decisions, HPL lays the groundwork for success at every step. By anticipating all potential outcomes, we provide our clients with the information they need to make an informed choice on how best to proceed.

The firm regularly represents clients, both as rights-holders and as accused infringers, in all types of intellectual property claims, including:

• Patent litigation

• Trademark litigation

• Copyright litigation

• Licensing agreement disputes

• Trade secret protection and enforcement

• Unfair competition claims

Mr. Hankin regularly serves as local counsel for numerous national and multinational firms engaged in intellectual property disputes in Los Angeles and throughout California. He has also been actively involved in international efforts to secure global protection of intellectual property interests through his participation in negotiating and drafting the new Hague Convention on Choice of Courts Agreements. Mr. Hankin has been the only U.S. patent lawyer involved throughout the entire process.
